Medellín has the best coffee scene of any Colombian city, and it is not close. Not because the beans are better — they come from the same regions everyone else buys from — but because the city has enough remote workers, returning expats and local coffee obsessives to sustain roasters that would not survive elsewhere.
We did not visit these places in person — we say that up front. The list comes from cross-checking public Restaurant Guru listings in August 2026 and filtering on a rating of 4.4 or higher and at least 40 reviews. Of 20 “café” listings reviewed in the city, all 20 cleared the filter. That does not happen in most cities.

Laureles (4.9, 1,846), Urban (5.0, 1,112) and La Inferior (5.0, 898). Three sites, two of them on a flat 5.0 with four figures of reviews behind them. Sustaining that across multiple branches is the hardest thing on this entire list — most chains lose half a point per location.

We started from every Restaurant Guru listing in the “café” category for Medellín, retrieved on 11 August 2026, and dropped anything below 4.4 stars or 40 reviews. Nothing was dropped: all 20 listings cleared it, which is why the ranking here is by review volume rather than by score — when everything scores 4.9, the number of people behind that 4.9 is what separates them.

Is Medellín good for coffee compared to the Coffee Region?
Different things. The Coffee Region — Salento, Filandia — is where the farms are and where you tour them. Medellín is where the roasters and the cafés are: it has more high-rated coffee addresses than any other Colombian city, but the beans still come from elsewhere. Do the farms in Quindío, drink in Medellín.
